I know we kind of let this thing go, but there hasn't been a whole lot going on thats worth talking about. Every so often i'm enveloped in complete silence. You could say that im clearing my palate. Recently, my best friend suggested that I should check these guys out from Australia, eddy current suppression ring, and for the first time in a while I was stoked. Oddly enough, i've had the great Aussie wasteland constantly appearing in my everyday life. First, i bought a Australian cattle dog a couple months ago. Second, a old coworker came back from a year long stay in Australia. Third, i fucking love mad max. Lastly, a random postcard came in the mail from Australia addressed to no one that currently resides in my house. Maybe it's a sign that there is something waiting for me in the land down under. "I weighed out my pros, and I weighed out my cons. I weighed out my evens, and I even know the odds, and I still don't know which way to go!"

First, the evil that is fucking awesome filled with booze, chicks, rock 'n' roll, and lots of sex without consequences. With Halloween around the corner i've started pondering what I should dress up as. For some reason, this is always a dilemma for me. As a kid I never really cared for dressing up, just the antics of running around throwing eggs, so as the years have gone by i've developed a poor taste in wardrobe for such occasions. Two years ago, I was Christian Hosoi's speed dealer...last year, I was a '60s heroin dealer. Both of these costumes are either a insdiers joke, since you have to know who hosoi was and what happened to him, or just unimaginative since I just wore a bunch of black velvet stuff with a spiffy hat.. This year seems like i'm leaning towards black metal dude, but then again I already did that last december for Kellen The Destroyer's birthday dinner. Fuck me in the goat ass...

It's fuckin' balls deep hot outside right now, i'm not going to lie, so don't go driving around east county throwing your cigarettes, aluminum cans, and glass bottles out the window into a heap of dried brush. How's everyone dealing with this heat? Are you sitting, shirtless, in a leather chair with a fan on you? Maybe you just don't give a fuck and your outside doing push ups like a lizard.... I don't know. Several summers ago, my girlfriend (Denay) and I decided Mojitos were going to be the cure for a hot day. Since mojitos are very hit and miss as to if they even happen to be on the bar menu, a lot of the places we frequented at that time served them; Bombay in Hillcrest serves an awesome 'ito with your indian food next to a waterfall. One day while on a early morning fishing expedition in the San Diego River next to fashion valley, it's gross I know I know, my friend chris and I realized: its Sunday, we've been up since 4am, there's a charger game on at 1pm, we both just got paid, we're not catching shit, and why not make our own mojitos. After having preacherman be the guinea pig for several recipes we finally got it right and fucking A! was it strong. I ended up getting soo drunk soo fast I passed out by the time the Charger game started only to wake up 8 hours later, throwing up all night. I slept next to the toilet in my underwear because it was still hot and I was covered in sweat all while clutching a box of saltines and a bottle of 7-UP. The thought of a cool, minty, alcoholic drink still makes me gag... but, it's fucking hot, and i've got a box of crackers.

Willy Graves was the bass player for The Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel tower, and then The Prayers. I think i met willy when I was around 19 years of age (25 now), when i started hanging around and working at the Music Trader in both El Cajon and Pacific Beach. Almost every shift I had, 5 days out of the week, was usually with Willy. He usually show up for his shift by tearing ass through the parking lot with that enormous green 15 seater, The Plot tour van, because he had to use it for his personal vehicle. He was either hungover or sleep deprieved because he stayed up late at his dad's house watching movies, while I would be stoned out of my mind. He showed me how to rip off tweakers trying to sell stolen Lost boxsets so I could get a free pack of smokes and a burrito for the day, we'd play ridiculously offensive music and drive people away from the record shopping experience, and a whole lot of time shooting the shit while chain-smoking in front of the store. Those were good times!

What is Pieces of Punk? P.O.P. are random things, institutions, fashions, local business, and ideologies that help make punk what it is; kind of like putting together a puzzle. The location of all this is based in Southern California because, if you don't already know what happened, we're punk! Most punk kids always find away to get ahold of both booze and cigarettes. Most of the time, the easiest way to obtain these things is round up a bum or two and tell them that they'll get a 40oz for themselves, but this can be difficult since most places wont sell to the homeless because they either dont have I.D. or they have a record of getting drunk and passing out in the parking lot. The next evolutionary step is to buy direct. Here's where shit starts getting wild... We discovered, in the 7th grade, that the liquor store down the street from our middle school would sell us booze, smokes, and porn as long as there wasn't anybody else in the store. On top of that, there was a lady who lived in a house behind the liquor store that would sell cheap weed. On the very most top, we also had a friend who lived in a apartment building directly across the street from both the liquor store, and Sue the weed dealer; this proved to be clutch because what cop wouldn't stop a bunch of kids smoking cigarettes on skateboards with a pack of beer in their little arms. At Sometime i'll have to do a post about Eric Sweaney, our friend who lived in the apartment, because he's without a doubt the most ridiculous person i've ever met. Anyways, middle school was fucking crazy!

Well, if you did and ever wondered about what kind of dude she dates then your answer is here... Jonathan Brandis. The obvious reaction is, "Of course, he's tearing shit up in vietnam with Chuck 'fuckin' Norris in Sidekicks" He was also Bastien in The Neverending Story II, which was a terrible sequel with an even worse plot, but the evil witch was a babe so whatevs. My personal favorite was when Brandis became a teenage cross dresser to play on a all girls soccer team and eventually lead them to a championship, alongside Rodney Dangerfield, in Ladybugs. Although there were many highlights in his career, including staring in FullHouse from time to time, Jonathan Brandis ended up hanging himself in his apartment in Los Angeles in 2003. Maybe that's what he got for killing Atreyu...

Screeching Weasel is definately one of my favorite bands of all time. A couple of weeks ago there was supposed to be a weasel cover band playing at the soda bar with all gay tribute to black flag, Black Fag, but they never showed up. Everyone was super bummed. Luckily, there was some dude that knew a couple of weasel songs and he went up there, solo, and jammed 'em out. That alone was such a fucking awesome time. Someone needs to have a tribute to the weasel sometime, and if no one is going to do it because they're too fuckin' sketchy, especially when there's a bunch of people that want to see it, maybe its time for someone else to pick up the torch. Okay, many years ago I worked at a record store, and every couple of years we would have to do a rescan. The rescan is a process like taking inventory, but instead of counting how may used CDs versus how many new, you would actually scan the barcode on every item in the store. This whole process takes about three 16-18 hour days with two people scanning continiously. The first day is always chill, but then halfway into the second day starts to get wacky. T-Gar and myself were drinking sparks non-stop and there is only soo much monotonous work, with contant beeping, a human being can take, while both intoxicated and on a sugar rush, on almost no sleep until your mind loses it. Among the tons of weird shit we would do, we started listening to records at different speeds. Some Girls played at 33, instead of 45, sounds like the most brutal punk band ever and wayy more epic then Tragedy or even His Hero Is Gone. My most favorite of these wrong speed records, Earth. Usually they are a snails pace stoner band, but when played at 45, instead of 33, they magically turn into the most awesome instrumental indie band you've never heard! Do yourself a favor, order this record online, don't sleep, get drunk, drink coffee and listen to this record at 45rpm! Amazing!

If you haven't noticed in the last two years, cassette tapes are making their way back into music media. For people like myself, they never left. I've relied on tapes as far back as I can remember and rely on them for my music listening pleasure on a daily basis, far more then CDs, LPs, 45s, and MP3s. Try to also look at it like this... their scratch proof, heat resistant, good with storage, and cheap! Tapes cover the floor of my truck, but I can still pop any one of them in the tape deck and it works like a charm. You can let them bake in your car on hot Californian summer days, still works. You can even get them wet! Shake 'em out, they work. I wonder if in another 10 years people will start making CDs again, and that'll be the throwback vintage DIY thing to do...

Didn't graduate high school until he payed off his $19.95 library fee for We The People. He dropped out of junior college. He became a carpenter, contruction worker, and a traffic school instructor. Eventually he ended up on radio and then the rest is golden. I'd love to tell some stories about this dude but it would be out of context, therefore not funny. He has a podcast that you can listen to, and its hilarious. One time, he had one of his buddies that he grew up with on his show and the whole time they reminisced about all the stupid shit you can do as a kid in north hollywood.

As i'm hanging around my house having a couple of drinks, one of my roomies pops in a movie. I decide to watch it with him since I don't have shit else going on. With a title like Bomb The System I thought it was going to be some anarcho smash the state type thing, which I was stoked on, but it wasn't. Instead, it was about Graffiti "art". This movie sucked! Why? First of all, I already hate art. If you want to be a asshole then go ahead and call yourself an artist. Graffiti art is even MORE shit. You probabaly wont be able to find this 7" just hanging around your local record store, but if it is then do yourself a favor and pick it up. 2 songs a side at 33 1/3rpm. My personal favorite is the first jam on the B side titled, "New Song". Its punk but but has a super power pop chorus and lasts forever. Check it out if you can.

What is Pieces of Punk? P.O.P. are random things, institutions, fashions, local business, and ideologies that help make punk what it is; kind of like putting together a puzzle. The location of all this is based in Southern California because, if you don't already know what happened, we're punk! All my siblings were much older than I was growing up. Sometimes it meant I was constantly tortured by 3 older brothers starting at ten years older than myself, but at the same time it also meant I had wayy awesome hand me down shit! One of my brothers was super into skateboarding in the 80s and when I was around 4, maybe 5, he gave me my very first hammerhead skateboard (see pics above) after he broke his arm at an old skatepark in Mission Valley. Gecko pants, neon tanks, vision street wear shoes and a boombox playing "Bloodstains" by Agent Orange or maybe some B-52s! Once, my bro even gave me a super old Vision street wear video from a contest held here in SD in like '84 where it was all flatland pogo shit.... it was awesome! Why am I talking about skateboarding and how does it relate to punk? Because skateboarding is punk! It provides transportation (freedom), entertainment, culture, self defense, and a wolfpack mentality. I dont care what people say nowadays, bikes are lame and wayy too expensive to get your fixed gear up to scenester code. Real punks ride skateboards! Just ask Mario Rubalcaba, owner of thirsty moon and once rider for Team Alva! Support your local record stores and skateshops! Go buy stuff at Thirsty Moon and Route 44.

Gleaming the Cube (also known as A Brother's Justice and Skate or Die) is an American movie released in 1989. Christian Slater plays Brian Kelly, a 16-year-old skateboarder who investigates the mysterious death of his adopted vietnamese brother. He bombs hills, hangs out in bomb shelters, and tries to hook up with girls at asian markets. There is a bunch of cameos in this movie from tony hawk to the lead singer of the Aquabats who I think is Slaters friend that lives in the bomb shelter. This movie is kind of a mesh between a vision streetwear skate video and a murder she wrote episode. Are you wondering what Gleaming the Cube actually means? It doesn't mean a damn thing! Literally.

Yosemite Sam is the nickname of a mysterious number station that first surfaced on December 19, 2004. It transmits on several shortwave frequencies in dual side band: 3700 kHz, 4300 kHz, 6500 kHz, and 10500 kHz. The nickname is taken from the Looney Tunes character Yosemite Sam, whose voice is played as part of the unusual transmission.The transmission begins on one of the frequencies. Ten seconds later, it is repeated on the next higher frequency, and so on for a total of two minutes. The entire pattern takes precisely two minutes, and always begins seven seconds after the top of an hour.

Each transmission starts with a data burst lasting 0.8 seconds, followed by the voice of Yosemite Sam exclaiming: "Varmint, I'm a-gonna b-b-b-bloooow yah t'smithereenies!" The clip is taken from the 1949 cartoon Bunker Hill Bunny.

The station disappeared on December 23, 2004, but returned during February 2005, on its old frequencies plus additional new frequencies

The purpose and origin of the Yosemite Sam station remain unknown.

Reception reports seem to indicate that the transmitter site is likely in the desert near Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. The Albuquerque location suggests another relation to Looney Tunes: the phrase frequently repeated by Bugs Bunny, "I knew I shouldn't have taken that left turn at Albuquerque."
