Who Cares!?

Maybe it's just because I have a lot of free time, but has anybody been paying attention to the article in the citybeat, and the discussion on their blog, on The Planet Rooth Gallery and their relocation? To sum it up, Mr Rooth is arguing he's having to move because of TrueNorth and its patrons. To be quite honest, TrueNorth does suck, and the people that go there are even worse. It only gets more bleak when you've realized that these people have now taken over North Park, making it uninhabitable by us creative yet subversive people. And for some reason people swear that all this snuck up on them. Really!? Have you been blind to U-31 and the Office, and yes even BlueFoot, over the last couple of years?. Did we ever put up a fight? NO! Should we have? YES! Is it too late? No Shit. The thing that bothers me the most? Mr. Rooth swears that he alone brought art and culture to North Park, and is taking it with him when he moves out of his studio. No one cares about your shitty art. Personally, I hate art. You aren't the only person doing, "creative and cultural", things in the last 8-10years in the greater North Park Area. Stop letting your ego write checks that your body can't cash.

California X-Mas

If you look outside at this time of year anywhere else in the country you'll quickly find that it's snowy and/or freezing cold with a windchill. I like the fact that San Diego, or Southern California as a whole, still enjoys sunny warm weather... especially on X-Mas. If you lived in a place like Virginia or Colorado what's the point of getting an awesome present as a kid, like a bike, if it serves as a giant paper weight. "A new Huffy! Awesome, i'll count the days 'til spring." LAME. Any place that snows would be lame. Maybe i'm spoiled, or I just, "don't get it", but i've grown up with palm trees and sunsets everyday. Sorry that when my mom came to this country she decided to live in a place that was legitimately inhabitable. Maybe I don't know how to properly wear a scarf. Maybe I don't have a wide selection of peacoats. And just maybe I don't have stellar matching sets of old lady sweaters and beanies. Maybe I don't have to because this is CALIFORNIA! No one can ever convince me of how cool someplace like Seattle, Portland, or New York could possibly be since nobody's going to die when the power goes out here. Let me say again, this is CALIFORNIA!

Punk for the day

Awesome Punk band from the cold war era on the wrong side of the wall (communist eastern europe). For some reason, the only other person that knows about this band in a heroin addict in golden hill.

Note- I am not a heroin addict, but I do own a heroin record.

SDFucko

Maybe i'm just speaking with myself in mind, but SDFucko has to be the biggest bust of the year. When I first stumbled on his blog I thought it was the funniest thing. Starting shit with CityBeat, Seth Combs, and most bands in San Diego. Maybe some of those things needed to be said about individuals/bands, and maybe some of those rants went a little too far overboard, the fact is that at least someone was saying something which is the most important thing of all. Almost two months later, nothing. Actually, even more than that since his/her last couple posts we're almost as boring as reading the plastic surgery ads in the Reader. My guess as to what happened? World Of Warcraft. So consumed by WOW, SDFucko is too busy trying to be a Night Elf Mohawk, or whatever you're supposed to do in that game. Every online video gamer i've ever known has this personality of, "fuck everything, it sucks." You also can't spell. I would have thought that since you were in the library all the time using their computers you'd have taken the time to learn, I don't know... how to spell? Maybe you're just too cool for San Diego. Maybe you should throw on some flannel and do a 100mile ride to Echo Park on your fixed gear and join the sea of hipsters with a blog. Times.

GROOMS

NYC's Grooms are coming to town tonight for a show at the Che Cafe. I must admit, I found these indie rocker homies on Stereogum, but I don't think it's such a bad thing. Better there than anywhere else (as far as I'm concerned). I agree with Seth Combs 'obvious influences' describing Grooms below & would add a pinch of trippy-dude Sonic Youth. I anticipate a killer show!

FYI: Life Deposits just yesterday dropped off the bill due to a family emergency, so the kind dudes of your favorite Weatherbox will be opening the show.

City Beat's Seth Combs (John E. Utah's bff) seems down with the cause:

PLAN A: Drug Wars, Grooms, Tempo No Tempo, Weatherbox @ Che CafĂ©. Tactfully balancing the line between garage and hardcore, Drug Wars remain one of the best local live bands. And Brooklyn’s Grooms manage to transcend obvious influences (Pavement, Broken Social Scene) to create smart indie rock that’s both tribute and novel (see video below).

Ravenna Woods

I've really been enjoying this band. Very stoked to see them when I'm up in Seattle in late-January. It has the potential be one of the best Seattle shows I've ever played!

Dear AA - yr clothing fits nicely. It really does, but yr advertising makes me want to rage against you. I mean, don't get me wrong here...girls in panties equal good, but these poor souls on billboards & magazine back covers look miserable. Dear ladies - yr parents give the thumbs down. tisk tisk.
